Support for Families During the SNAP Pause

Support for Families During the SNAP Pause

November 10, 2025

When Community Comes Together

During this time, as the government shutdown pauses SNAP benefits, many families are understandably feeling uncertain. If you’re one of them, please know this: you are not alone.

Across New Mexico and all across the country, neighbors, nonprofits, and local businesses are stepping up to make sure families are supported, children are fed, and no one has to face these challenges on their own. When systems pause, our communities come together, and that’s exactly what’s happening right now.

Roadrunner Food Bank: A Partner in Care

For decades, Roadrunner Food Bank has been a beacon of compassion in New Mexico. Their dedicated team and volunteers work tirelessly to make sure food continues to reach families throughout the state, especially now, while SNAP benefits are in limbo.

To support this essential mission, Kennedy Financial Network is donating to Roadrunner Food Bank. We believe that helping others isn’t just good stewardship, it’s part of what it means to truly belong to a community.

If you or someone you know needs assistance, Roadrunner’s website features an easy-to-use “Find Food” map that lists food pantries and distribution events throughout the state. And for those able to help, they welcome donations, food drives, and volunteers every day.

Together, we can help make sure New Mexico families have the food and support they need.

Free Meals for Kids in Albuquerque

While SNAP benefits are paused, several local restaurants and community programs are ensuring that children have access to free, healthy meals. These generous efforts remind us how caring our community can be.

Here are a few locations around Albuquerque that are currently offering free meals for families:

  • Burrito Baby – One free meal per child.

  • Burrow Café – One free meal per child.

  • Chicken Salad Chick – Free meal for children, no purchase necessary.

  • Dough Daddy’s Delights – Free pizza or pasta for kids on Mondays and Wednesdays.

  • El Muchacho Alegre – Free meal (two tacos or a corn dog with fries) per child.

  • Flamez Fusion (Cedar Crest) – Kids eat free while SNAP benefits are paused.

  • The Girls’ Coffee House – Free simple family meals for children and up to two adults.

  • The Hopper Pub & Pizzeria – One free small pizza per child.

National Food Assistance Resources

We know that not all of our clients and community members live in New Mexico. If you or someone you know lives elsewhere and needs food assistance, many national food resources can help during this temporary pause in SNAP benefits.

Here are a few nationwide options:

  • Feeding America – The largest network of food banks in the U.S., serving every county. Their online locator can help you find a food pantry near you
  • No Kid Hungry – Offers free meal programs for children, including school and summer meal locations. Families can text FOOD to 304-304 or visit the link for help

  • The Salvation Army – Provides food boxes, hot meals, and grocery assistance nationwide. Find your nearest location at the link

  • 211 Helpline – A free, confidential service that connects people to local food pantries, utility help, and family services. Dial 211 or visit the link

  • Meals on Wheels America – Provides meals and wellness checks to seniors nationwide. Visit the link to find a program in your area.

No matter where you live, support is available, and people are ready to help.

How You Can Help

Every act of kindness makes a difference. Whether it’s a donation, a few cans of food, a couple of volunteer hours, or simply sharing a resource with someone in need, each gesture helps families feel seen and supported.

Here’s how you can help right now:

  • Donate to your local food pantry.

  • Volunteer your time at a food distribution site or warehouse.

  • Share resources with friends and family.

  • Check in with neighbors; sometimes the smallest kindness matters most.

Together, we can make sure families don't go hungry until SNAP benefits resume.
